Healthmug's prescription verification workflow uses a two-stage processing pipeline: uploaded prescription images are first processed by an OCR layer that extracts medication names, dosages, prescriber details, and prescription date from the image. The extracted data is then validated against the platform's drug database to confirm that the requested medications match the prescription contents and that the prescription is within its validity period (typically 30 or 90 days from the prescribing date, depending on drug class). Prescriptions requiring Schedule H or H1 drugs are flagged for pharmacist review before the order proceeds to fulfilment — a licensed pharmacist reviews the prescription image and OCR extract before approving dispensing, satisfying the Drugs and Cosmetics Act requirements for prescription drug dispensing in India.

The multi-warehouse inventory management system distributes stock across regional fulfilment centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai, with a routing algorithm that selects the optimal fulfilment centre based on current stock availability, distance to the delivery address, and temperature-controlled shipping requirements. Temperature-sensitive medications (insulin, biologics, certain vaccines) route exclusively to fulfilment centres with GDP (Good Distribution Practice) certified cold chain infrastructure and are shipped in validated temperature-controlled packaging with a data logger included for each shipment.

The teleconsultation module connects patients with licensed physicians using WebRTC-based video calls with a maximum latency target of 500ms round-trip. Post-consultation, physicians issue digital prescriptions through the platform — digitally signed using the physician's registered PKI certificate, satisfying the Information Technology Act's requirements for digital signatures on prescription documents. Issued prescriptions link directly to the patient's order, pre-populating the verification workflow with the digitally issued prescription rather than requiring the patient to photograph a paper document.
