Safe365's background location tracking architecture is built to balance GPS accuracy with battery efficiency — the primary complaint about family safety apps from both App Store reviews and user research. On iOS, the app uses Core Location's significant-change location service (approximate updates when the device moves more than 500 metres) during idle periods, switching to standard location updates (10-second intervals with 10-metre accuracy filter) when a family member is in transit or a geofence event is pending. This adaptive approach reduces battery consumption by approximately 60% compared to continuous high-accuracy GPS tracking, extending battery life on a typical day from 12 hours (continuous GPS) to 20+ hours. On Android, the app uses FusedLocationProviderClient with a balanced power accuracy profile that blends GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower triangulation.
